CENTER ON CONTEMPORARY ART (CoCA) APPOINTS NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR SEATTLE, WA. September 22, 2021 - Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alexis Chapman as the new CoCA Deputy Director. Ms. Chapman began her tenure at CoCA in this new position on September 1, 2021.

Alexis Chapman, a dedicated arts administrator, critical writer, and expert observationalist of artistic environments, is always inspired by the potential of contemporary art spaces. Both virtual and physical sites become palettes for social consciousness and immersive arts engagement.
Her MA in Critical Theory, Pacific Northwest College of Art (2020), and a BA Cultural Anthropology and Art History, Sarah Lawrence College (2015), provide a significant foundation for art placemaking. Joining CoCA in 2020, as the Marketing and Communication intern, and then in 2021 as the new Communications and Grants Strategist, she moved CoCA closer to meeting its strategic goals. This 2021 appointment to Deputy Director is a new phase of public engagement for CoCA.
Throughout her career Alexis has focused her efforts to propel pro-equity and non-racist engagement across diverse communities.These connections allow her to plan, implement and develop innovative sustainable practices and programs for audiences and artists. Her professional journey includes the Public Programs Intern with Seattle Arts and Lecture and the Executive Director of the Bend Art Center.

Art travels from the Northwest into the East Coast, and throughout South America and Europe give Alexis a wide view of art makers and the role of art in civic societies. When not traveling or working for arts nonprofits, Alexis is an avid printmaker. She creatively realigns experiences and possibilities through process. |
